These days, everyone is talking about the new normal, strategists predict, governments are trying to get the economy back on the feet, we have not yet fully felt the post-crisis period, nor have we begun the recovery.
But what is the new normal?
New Normal is a term in business and economics that refers to financial conditions following the financial crisis of 2007-2008, the aftermath of the 2008–2012 global recession, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The term has been used ever since in a variety of other contexts to imply that something which was previously abnormal has become commonplace. (source Wikipedia)
But my question to you is were you satisfied with the previous normal?
The new normal is coming and now is the time for new opportunities and changes. Ask yourself where you want to be, what is really important to you, and strive for it. People who start from themselves are the ones who dictate the changes, others will, as usual, adapt to the new situations.
Did we learn anything during the crisis and the lockdown? When I say learn, I don’t mean how many books you read or how many courses attended, etc. Many didn’t have that luxury, so I think more about what you noticed, what was significant to you, and what wasn’t.
If you know the answer to that question, nurture what is essential to you, and if you find yourself confused in all this, then this is the right time for your changes. Know that you have the freedom to create your own new normal.
This time of crisis has forced us to slow down a bit, to go back to the beginnings, to realize that this speed of life sometimes leads us nowhere but to just spin in a circle. That mistakes can happen in a rush because we are just people and we make them sometimes. We realized that we can’t do without freedom, and we didn’t appreciate it enough, we realized that nature can do without us pretty well, but not us without it, so let’s take care a little more.
And just as importantly, we realized that we miss people cause we are social beings, there is no technology that can replace human contact. And that social distancing, it is very necessary to emphasize that it is not distancing from people, but only a safe distance in order to preserve ourselves and others. This is exactly what tells us to take more care of ourselves and others.
I guess we finally realized that every watch shows the same time, any phone makes the same call to your loved one, and that technology is just a tool to make our lives easier, not to take us away to extremes. So stop for a moment and remember what was really important to you, what you missed, and let’s try to be a little more human in this new normal that we are creating.
Stay safe and healthy.
